About Me

I am a retired Philadelphia school teacher. I am a "late Bloomer" as I did not enroll in college until I was 41 years old. Even though I entered sans a high school diploma or a GED, I completed undergraduate and graduate school in a period of 5 years. Upon my completion, I was the recipient of a MA in Bilingual/Bicultural Studies, (Spanish) as well as PA Teaching certification in Comprehensive Social Studies, (7-12) and Spanish, (K-12). Additionally, I received a certificate in the Art of Afrocentric Teaching. My 20+ years teaching experience has largely been in African Centered Schools. So, this is not just about me, this is about  our future. It is important that our young people know WHO they are, where they come from, and where they can go. For example, the kindergarteners started each morning with:

I am an African American, a descendent of the Great Kings of Queens

of Africa; the creators of Civilization.

I am an African American by heritage, I am proud by choice.

Different ethnic groups have different learning styles, and African Centered teachers teach our children from the style through which they learn best. (Brain based learning.) Of course the students are taught RESPECT; Respect for self, respect for others, and respect for the environment! The children are our future!

I miss the classroom and I am looking for a full time or part time position mentoring our youth. This is almost impossible to find in today's economy, however, I am still searching. (Philadelphia is even laying off teachers.) I am also interested in mentoring African American women, as well as women of color. Many of us don't realize what a "RAW DEAL" we are still receiving in the 21st century. We need more Kola Boofs!
